“To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never to forget.”
― Arundhati Roy, The Cost of Living
Welcome! My name is Kate Frey . I’m a socialist, a writer, historian , and a traveler. My interests include history, philosophy, human evolution, archeogenetic, science fiction, and alternate history.
I’ve been published in various venues including the Palgrave Encyclopedia of Imperialism and Anti-Imperialism, Socialism and Democracy, the Committee for A Workers International, Justice/Socialist Alternative, LINKS; A Journal of Socialist Renewal, and Left Voice.
I currently live in Maine, in the northeast US.
The title of this blog was inspired by Bernardo Bertolucci’s classic 1964 film, one of my all time favorites.
Here I have collected some of my writing; film and book reviews, essays, articles, and fiction, as well as links to my podcasts and videos.
Note; this blog has been on hiatus since 2019, I’ve revived it and I’m adding a lot of new material.
I hope you enjoy.
This blog is a work in progress, there are a few links which don’t work and the contact page isn’t functional yet. In the mean time. I can be contacted at Ktfrey5@gmail.com.
